ANIMALS AND THE LAW
WHERE TO FIND FURTHER INFORMATION
This section of the website includes useful information about animal welfare law, as well as back copies of our own publication, The UK Journal of Animal Welfare Law, information about where to study animal law in the UK, and recommended reading.
General legal information
In Brief
We have put together some information on a range of topics that we are contacted about, covering the legal responsibilities we have towards animals, what to do about suspected animal abuse, wildlife crime, animal licenced establishments and travelling with an animal. As well as providing some general information on these topics, there are links to other organisations and bodies who may be able to provide more in-depth information or advice.
Enquiries
If you have a legal question that relates to an important issue of animal welfare policy, you are welcome to email us. Although we may not always have the resources to respond to you individually, please be assured that all emails are read and considered, and we follow up suggestions where we can.
You may find it best to contact, in the first instance, an animal welfare organisation that has a particular interest in that area. For example, if your enquiry relates to farm animal welfare, you may wish to contact Compassion in World Farming. There are animal welfare organisations with specific expertise in almost every aspect of animal welfare. As noted above, A-law works with a wide range of organisations to support them in identifying legal projects we can assist them with.
Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to respond to legal questions about individual animals or intervene in private legal disputes. Please note that A-law is not a law firm and we cannot give legal advice ourselves.
